CommonGround Incubator
Just a short walk from Brunswick Railway Station in Victoria Street, are two buildings that are full of business success stories.
CommonGround Empire supports emerging businesses through the Brunswick Business Incubator (BBI). The BBI is a not-for-profit organisation. It opened in 2002, and was developed as a partnership between the City of Moreland and the Victorian and Commonwealth Governments.
Housed inside the Brunswick Business Incubator are 45 small businesses that occupy 66 office spaces and support 144 full time employees.
There are many benefits to locating in the BBI for a new business. Tenants have affordable office space, an excellent central Brunswick location, professional reception services, access to meeting rooms and use of basic office equipment such as photocopiers which can be difficult to set up in a home-based environment. It's very much service bases and aimed at supporting the small businesses to help them develop and grow. The rental charges are significantly cheaper than commercial space, and businesses from all sectors are welcomed. Tenants don't have to sign a commercial lease and only have to give a month's notice to exit.
The aim of the incubator is for tenant businesses to become commercially viable so that within their allocated 3 year timeframe, they can relocate to commercial accommodation.
The BBI fosters a culture of entrepreneurship and provides opportunities for businesses to refer clients to one another and to participate in a variety of learning and networking activities. Regular seminars and workshops are held on a variety of small business related topics and are open to all Moreland Businesses.
